Who created the Akamonkai courses?
These courses were created by Go! Go! Nihon in partnership with Akamonkai Japanese Language School, the largest Japanese Language School In Japan as an introduction to the Japanese language and to help students to improve their Japanese or get ready for studying full time in Japan.
How do the online classes work?
We have lessons using video, text files, audio files and more. For some lessons you could be shown with a conversation video, back up grammar slides and also repetition videos for you to practice with, other times it might be with an audio file and downloadable vocabulary sheet, we show you the best materials to help you understand new topics quickly. There are also opportunities for you to create your own videos to share with us so we can check your understanding and progress. We also have a community where you can engage with other students on the same journey as you, ask questions, compare notes and even engage with the course leaders.
How are the beginner classes scheduled?
The course begins when you enrol, with 5 days of lessons being released each week until all the course days are live. We advise you to complete the lessons chronologically but don’t worry if you can not complete them as they are released as once you have bought the course the lessons are available for six months. But, don't worry, if you cannot finish it within six months, you can enroll in our alumni subscription to extend it with a monthly fee.
Do I need to know some Japanese beforehand?
The beginner course means you can start lessons from zero and learn the basics from Hiragana and Katakana, then move on to Kanji, basic grammar and conversation skills. The intermediate course takes off where the beginner course finishes and helps you to build on that foundation teaching further Kanji and more advanced grammar and conversation skills.
Can anyone take these classes?
The course was designed for anyone who would like to learn how to speak Japanese, wherever they are in the world. The pre-recorded content means that you can fit the lessons around your own schedule, the beginner course will bring you to JLPT N5 level and the intermediate course will take you to JLPT N4 level. Currently, the course is only available in English.
Do I have to show my face when sending video?
Whilst it is very important for students to upload videos for us to check their pronunciation, understanding and progress, please note that you don't have to show your face if you don't want to. You can cover it with an emoji, when you record your video, use "pixel mode" or just hide it!
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, you will get a certificate if you complete either course, but you need to complete 100% of the course in order to receive it.
